Kroger App Refresh

Role

As the lead motion designer, my role centered on developing a unified motion design system for the Kroger mobile app refresh. I collaborated with UX teams to define guidelines, motion specs, and principles for both iOS and Android, ensuring intuitive and purposeful animations. My work established a clear, actionable motion language—Liquid Glass for iOS and M3 Expressive for Android—documented for seamless engineering handoff and consistent user experiences.

Challenges

Kroger needed a motion library that worked seamlessly across iOS, Android, Liquid Glass, and M3 Expressive. I took the lead in defining specs and aligning motion design to bridge these systems—creating a style that balanced Kroger’s new brand, utility, and playful purpose.

Understanding the landscape

I researched top motion trends and user feedback, benchmarking leading retail apps to ensure our motion felt native, signaled affordance, and was easy for engineers to build.

Solution

Created a clear motion system with specs and guidelines for all platforms. Close collaboration with UX and engineering ensured every animation was purposeful, usable, and on-brand.

Shows focus on user-centric motion, usability, and solving real-world user problems.

Highlights research skills, creativity, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering.

Demonstrates technical adaptability, platform fluency, and efficient problem-solving with engineering team to ensure reliance on native components or do we build our own.
